Augusta Ngeri-Soluade, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a New York State licensed Psychotherapist with over 21 years of experience. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Fordham University in Manhattan, NY; a Master's in Substance Abuse Counseling from Pace University in Manhattan, NY; and a Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. My approach I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to highlight how negative thoughts can lead to negative feelings and actions-identifying specific problems or issues in the client's daily life. I help clients become aware of unproductive thought patterns and how they impact their lives, identifying negative thinking and reshaping it in a way that changes how they feel. I teach new behaviors and encourage clients to put them into practice. My focus Setting goals with clients can be very helpful in multiple areas of their lives. Goals help clients face emotional and behavioral difficulties by identifying a starting point and understanding exactly where they are in terms of their treatment goals. I break goals down into small, manageable steps to prevent clients from feeling overwhelmed. I work collaboratively with clients to achieve these short-term goals in order to accomplish long-term success. My communication style When greeting a client for the first time, I make it clear that I'm glad to see them. I smile, look them in the eye, and say, “Good to see you.” I ask focused questions and create a welcoming environment to engage the client, build rapport, and establish a therapeutic alliance. I feel empathy, display a genuinely positive attitude, and practice patience. I actively listen and validate the client's thoughts and ideas by showing that their words are worth paying attention to. I respond with verbal and nonverbal feedback to demonstrate that I am hearing and understanding them. I summarize what the client says and repeat it back, asking clarifying questions when needed.
