Austin Ross, MS, LMFT

Psychotherapist
2520 N Carroll Ave, Dallas, TX
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing virtual therapy to adults and couples throughout Texas and Illinois, as well as in-person sessions in Dallas. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University, where I completed my clinical training through The Family Institute. I work with adults experiencing stress, anxiety, emotional disconnection, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. I have a particular interest in supporting men navigating anger, pressure, communication challenges, and the feeling that they must handle everything on their own. I also help couples who feel caught in recurring conflict, emotionally distant, or more like roommates than partners. This may include challenges involving communication, intimacy, trust, new parenthood, or other significant transitions. I believe deeply in therapy and in the difference it can make when people have a space where they feel genuinely understood. You deserve to be met with curiosity and compassion before being asked to change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is calm, straightforward, and practical, without lectures or unnecessary jargon. Therapy with me is collaborative: I will listen carefully and help you feel understood, while also asking thoughtful questions, identifying patterns, and encouraging meaningful change. I draw from evidence-based, relational, and emotion-focused approaches, but I do not believe therapy should feel identical for everyone. We will tailor our work to your personality, experiences, relationships, and goals. We may explore how past experiences influence the present, but we will also focus on practical changes you can make in your everyday life. When working with couples, I do not approach therapy as a referee or decide who is right and who is wrong. Instead, I help both partners understand the pattern developing between them, communicate underlying needs more clearly, and rebuild emotional safety and connection. You can expect compassion and honesty from me. My goal is to create an environment where you can speak openly, better understand yourself, and leave therapy with greater clarity and useful tools.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will focus on understanding what brought you to therapy, what has been happening in your life or relationships, and what you hope will be different. You do not need to arrive with everything figured out. We will begin organizing what feels overwhelming and identify the concerns that deserve our attention first. In following sessions, we will look more closely at the emotions, experiences, and recurring patterns that may be keeping you stuck. A typical session includes space to discuss what has happened since we last met, explore what feels most important that day, and connect it to your larger goals. I will help you recognize patterns, put language to difficult emotions, and consider new ways of responding. Depending on your needs, we may practice communication skills, emotional-regulation strategies, boundary setting, or other tools you can use outside of therapy. We will periodically check in about what is helping and adjust our approach when needed. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so the pace and focus of our work will reflect your needs, comfort, and goals.
