Ava Martinez, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, I’m Ava, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California specializing in OCD and related disorders. I help individuals manage intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and anxiety while also navigating the complex systems and identity-related stressors that contribute to individual mental health. OCD can feel overwhelming and relentless, leaving you stuck in cycles that are hard to escape. It may also leave you with thoughts that feel deeply shameful and taboo. You might wonder if therapy will actually work. Fortunately, OCD is highly treatable and—with the right approach—real change is possible.

Getting to know Ava Martinez

Hi, I’m Ava, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California specializing in OCD and related disorders. I help individuals manage intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and anxiety while also navigating the complex systems and identity-related stressors that contribute to individual mental health. OCD can feel overwhelming and relentless, leaving you stuck in cycles that are hard to escape. It may also leave you with thoughts that feel deeply shameful and taboo. What should a new client know about working with you?

I use evidence-based treatments like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), alongside ACT and CBT to help you face challenges and reduce compulsions in a way that feels manageable. My style is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental—balancing practical tools with a deep understanding of your unique identity and experiences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My intention is to practice with humility and curiosity. Part of this is bearing in mind that while I have expertise and experience in providing mental healthcare, my clients are experts on their own life experiences and histories and therapy is most successful when it is treated as a collaborative effort between therapist and client. I am committed to practicing trauma-informed and culturally competent care while getting to know each client's life history and current challenges. My goal, as your therapist, is to work with you to create the roadmap to achieving a better quality of life. While I can't build it for you, my goal is for our work to leave you feeling empowered to build it yourself, with me alongside you every step of the way offering support, humor, and (reasonable) challenges. If you’re ready to feel more in control and less held back by OCD, I’d be honored to support you. Together, we’ll work toward enhanced freedom, flexibility, and a life that feels more like your own.
