“Avi is one of a kind. He is attentive, observant, insightful and he genuinely cares about his clients. He has a strong ability to recall important details that make you feel heard... I truly believe he wants to help, and I’ve sorely missed those qualities since our sessions ended. If my insurance ever aligns with what his new location accepts, I would choose Avi, again, without hesitation.”

Getting to know Avi Tapp

*This provider does not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans* I work with people who carry the invisible weight of trauma, ADHD, anxiety, and relationships that feel more draining than supportive. In our sessions, I bring warmth, curiosity, and honesty to help you make sense of what’s been hard and find steadier ground within yourself. My goal isn’t just to help you cope-it’s to help you reconnect with your voice, your boundaries, and your capacity for genuine connection and self-trust. I bring a calm, grounded presence to each session, with room for humor and lightness when it fits. Clients describe me as steady and approachable, making even the heavy stuff feel a little lighter to carry. Outside of therapy, I love crocheting, gaming, and getting lost in a great sci-fi or fantasy story. Beginning therapy is a meaningful step toward caring for yourself and creating change. We’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, building trust and clarity along the way. My role is to walk beside you with steadiness, compassion, and hope as you move toward growth and healing. Avi Tapp has a Master’s in Social Work from Yeshiva University. Avi is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW #118568) at Cerebral. Supervised by Tyshauna White, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #093800) in New York.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Sessions with me are collaborative, grounded, and deeply human. You can expect warmth, humor, and honesty woven with practical tools that meet you where you are. My goal is to help you feel both supported and challenged in ways that inspire growth, insight, and lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I became a therapist because I understand what it’s like to feel weighed down by trauma and self-doubt—and believe no one should have to face that alone. In our work, we'll creates a space where your story is honored, strengths are uplifted, and both pain and possibility can be explored with care. My clients often leave sessions feeling seen, supported, and more connected to their resilience and sense of self.

Avi is an awesome mental health provider. He has really been there through my most difficult time in my life!

I had a very positive experience working with Avi. From the start, Avi created a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment that made it easy to open up and feel heard. He brings a thoughtful, compassionate approach to his work, balancing empathy with practical guidance that’s actually useful in day-to-day life. What stood out most was Avi’s ability to listen deeply and ask insightful questions that helped me better understand my own patterns and challenges. He doesn’t rush the process, and he’s very intentional about meeting you where you are. At the same time, he offers clear tools and strategies to help you move forward, which made our sessions feel both supportive and productive. Avi is professional, reliable, and genuinely invested in his clients’ well-being. If you’re looking for a therapist who is attentive, respectful, and skilled at helping you work through complex situations, I would definitely recommend him.
I’ve been in therapy on and off for years, and working with Avi has been a real turning point. IFS (Internal Family Systems) has been genuinely life-changing. It’s the first approach that’s helped me understand myself in a clear, usable way—not just something to talk about, but something I can actually apply. I can now recognize what’s coming up and work with it, instead of feeling stuck in patterns I couldn’t name. Avi creates a space that feels grounded and open—structured, but without judgment. Over the past year, I’ve noticed a real shift: less reactive, more aware, and more steady overall. If you’ve tried therapy before and felt like something was missing, this work is worth exploring.
Avi continues to impress me session after session. He is extremely knowledgeable, which is evident in his approach. He provides great insights sparking introspection and creates a safe and comfortable environment to be vulnerable and authentic. Highly recommend!
He truly saved my relationship by helping me uncover deep-seated patterns I wasn’t even aware were affecting my life. Through his guidance, I gained a much clearer perspective on my own actions and learned how to align my behavior with my core values. His expertise in Internal Family Systems (IFS) was a game-changer for me; it opened my eyes to my different 'parts' and gave me the tools to understand them rather than fight them. Additionally, as someone with ADHD, I found his approach incredibly practical. He helped me shift from seeing my ADHD as a hurdle to using it as a tool to improve my relationships both at work and at home. If you are looking for a therapist who is insightful, transformative, and skilled at navigating complex personal dynamics, he is the one to see.
Avi is wonderful with his approach, and was quick to help me get reacclimatized to therapy in a way that’s realistic and meaningful. I felt safe and trust him to continue growing on my journey and would highly recommend Avi to anyone looking for a therapist.
