I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor’s from Oklahoma State University. I completed my internship at Water’s Edge Counseling and Play Therapy. I have provided counseling to tweens, adolescents, and adults facing various challenges and life transitions. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship so clients feel safe to bring their full selves into therapy. My approach is guided by empathy, genuineness, and compassion. I believe therapy is collaborative, partnering with clients to identify growth areas, explore barriers, and determine how to overcome challenges. In sessions, I use a psychodynamic, client-centered approach. We focus on discovering strengths and building coping skills. As clients practice these skills outside sessions, we work together to identify deeper roots of anxiety, depression, and other symptoms. I believe past experiences impact current challenges—part of my work is uncovering this connection and resolving traumas and emotional wounds to help create a fulfilling future. One modality I use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a structured approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reprocessing traumatic or chronic stress experiences.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Arkansas where I was a member of the Sigma Chi Iota Honors Society. During my graduate program, I focused on becoming a trauma-informed therapist and developing my skills for working with clients who have experienced trauma. While completing my practicum experience at Piney Ridge Treatment Center, I worked with adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, maladaptive sexual behaviors, and trauma. Following my practicum experience, I had the opportunity to complete my internship at Water’s Edge Counseling and Play Therapy where I worked with clients of a variety of ages, cultures, orientations, and life experiences. Working with such a wide range of clients gave me an appreciation for each client’s individual journey and the experiences that they have had before and during their time in therapy, and how those experiences have shaped them as a person. Since graduating with my master’s, I have worked in private practice with clients experiencing life transitions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress. To complement my work as a trauma-informed therapist I completed a 50-hour training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy by Dr. Robbie Adler-Tapia of Tapia Counseling & Psychological Services. Dr. Adler-Tapia was originally trained in EMDR by Dr. Francine Shapiro, who originated and developed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I also obtained 10 hours of EMDR consultation from an EMDRIA certified training center. After experiencing EMDR as a client with my own therapist, I felt like it was an invaluable tool to add to my work with clients who have experienced trauma or chronic stress. I continue to seek consultation and advanced training to learn more about EMDR and how it can benefit clients.
