Getting to know Barbara Gamez

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University and a Bachelor’s from Texas Woman’s University, I bring 11 years of clinical experience and 27 years overall in the field. Everyone, at some point, needs support to face difficult challenges or past trauma that may prevent them from reaching their goals. I believe everyone has positive attributes within but may not know how to access that inner strength. My approach centers on empowering people to discover their true self-worth and develop coping skills to manage life’s difficulties. This begins by building a strong, trusting relationship between patient and therapist, which I consider essential.
I have worked in various settings including home health care, education, juvenile justice, outpatient behavioral health clinics, group and private practice, and outpatient mental health care with individuals, families, and groups. I use treatment approaches tailored to individual needs, including person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, strength-based approaches, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and cognitive processing therapy.
With over 18 years of experience working with children, I currently focus on clients aged 12 through adult. Issues I treat include PTSD, ADHD, behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, anger management, bipolar disorder, women’s issues, relationship challenges, stress, family conflict, bereavement, adjustment issues, and parenting concerns.
