Barbara Piehler, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I work with adults who feel overwhelmed by life transitions, relationship stress, or the pressure to always “get it right.” Many of my clients struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, and self-esteem, often feeling disconnected from their own needs while trying to meet the expectations of others. If this resonates with you, you’re not alone and you don’t have to navigate it on your own. My approach is relational, collaborative, and compassionate. I believe healing happens within a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship where you feel seen, understood, and accepted as you are. I draw from ACT and attachment theory to help you better understand your emotional patterns, strengthen your relationships, and build a more grounded and authentic connection with yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Together, we’ll explore what’s keeping you stuck, clarify what truly matters to you, and develop tools to help you respond to life’s challenges with greater flexibility and self-compassion. My goal is to support you in moving away from self-criticism and burnout and toward a life that feels more aligned, meaningful, and fulfilling. I strive to create a nurturing space where growth feels possible and where you can show up honestly; without judgment or pressure to be perfect.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You can expect a safe and supportive environment to explore your inner world. I will ask exploratory questions to gain more insight and better understand who you are. Together, we can work towards understanding the root causes of your struggles and developing practical strategies to overcome them. Therapy with me is collaborative, supportive, and paced with care. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin; we’ll make sense of things together at a pace that feels right for you.
