What should a new client know about working with you?

My training and focus has been primarily on relationships. Mental health is achieved through healthy relationships; healthy relationships both with others, and with one's Self. This is the framework from which I observe my clients succeed and heal. I embrace the Gottman Method, as it provides the largest body of research on relationships, examining what leads to success along with satisfaction or failure and misery. Gottman used his observations to develop strategies couples can employ to achieve satisfying connections with their loved ones, as well as patterns to avoid that lead to relational failure and misery. His tools and interventions are science-based, but easy to comprehend and apply in day to day interactions. I also integrate IFS or "internal family systems" into my work with clients. IFS provides a simple, yet profound framework of how to regard the different "parts" of you that respond to different situations, producing various emotions and thinking patterns. IFS deepens the understanding of the mind and the way to regard one's reactions and responses to relational delights and conflicts. IFS provides a much clearer understanding of what's happening for my clients as they engage in relationships both externally with others and internally with themselves. I am also trained in ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). ACT is similar to CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as it is research based and appeals to clients who want a better strategy of engaging thought patterns and reshaping their ways of engaging the world to a more clear and adaptable lens. I appreciate ACT as it helps clients align with personal values, achieve psychological flexibility, develop skills in mindfulness, and move from challenges with cognitive fusion to clarity and satisfaction.
