Getting to know Benjamin Gatliff

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 22 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment. I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology from Georgia College and State University and completed my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at Fort Valley State University. Throughout my career, I have worked in community mental health centers, prisons, jails, and mental hospitals. Additionally, I have volunteered with counseling services, hospice care, the Salvation Army, and food banks. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental environment that facilitates personal change, insight, and healing. My theoretical approach to treatment is influenced by Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I assist clients in exploring how their thoughts, feelings, and actions impact their environment and sense of personal safety and fulfillment. I empower clients to direct their own process of personal change. My style of therapy is approachable, humorous, and open-minded, focused on learning and meeting each client's unique needs. I do not judge and am willing to explore the client's needs as they express them. I believe all individuals are of significant worth and deserve to be valued throughout the therapeutic process of healing and change. My clinical specialties include depression, anger management, anxiety, dysfunctional relationships, trauma reaction/PTSD, substance abuse, dual diagnosis, psychosis, LGBTQ+ issues, men's issues, aging, life purpose, stress management, and many other concerns.
