Getting to know Benjamin Nguyen

Hi! My name is Ben Nguyen, and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. I have lived and worked around the Chicago-land area my entire life. I received my undergraduate education from the University of Illinois in Chicago and completed my graduate studies at Roosevelt University, where I earned my Master's of Arts in Clinical Counseling and Applied Psychology. I have been in the mental health and behavioral health field for over a decade, working in various settings including public health, non-profits, hospitals, and corrections. My approach to therapy focuses on exploring and amplifying personal strengths while developing balance in life. No life is absent of struggles, but struggles do not need to lead to suffering. I draw from person-centered, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and dialectical therapies. I utilize a personalized approach by incorporating different styles tailored to each individual. My role is to provide support, guidance, education, and even advice, but ultimately, change and progress rest in the individual's hands. My philosophy is not to work harder than the client but to walk alongside them on this journey. Just like most things in life, what you get from therapy is equivalent to the effort you put in. It's important to know that therapy is not an easy road, free of pain and tears, but at the end of that road is a stronger person despite going through such turmoil.
