Benjamin Oosting, SW, LCSW

Benjamin Oosting, SW, LCSW

Psychotherapist
51 Upper Montclair Plz, Montclair, NJ
I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker with an MSW from Fordham University, and I am formally trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy), two evidence-based approaches that help clients connect with themselves in ways that support self-compassion and new decision-making processes. I am committed to ongoing professional development to ensure that I’m offering the most current, experience- and research-informed care. My therapeutic style is integrative: I draw from neuroscience, psychological theory, and philosophical inquiry to help clients explore not just what happened to them, but also what those experiences mean in the broader context of their lives. This allows for deeper healing, transformation, and personal growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that therapy is not just about symptom relief—it’s about fostering resilience, rediscovering choice, and finding new ways to live more authentically. Each person I work with brings their own set of strengths, struggles, and stories. My role is to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore those experiences and move toward greater clarity and healing. Whether you’re grappling with trauma, stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand, or simply looking for support as you navigate life’s complexities, I’m here to help. Together, we can work toward a life that feels more connected, empowered, and aligned with your values.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer a free, 15 minute phone or virtual consultation to start, which gives us an opportunity for me to get to know a bit about what is bringing you to therapy, and to make sure that I can provide what you're looking for. If it's a fit, I'll spend some the first sessions asking questions. This gives me an opportunity to get to know you and understand how your life has shaped you, and how it has impacted what you're looking to address in therapy. This usually takes place over one to two sessions. By the end of these sessions, we collaborate on a plan that makes sense to you. From that point forward, we're in the work of creating the change that you've come to therapy for. Throughout our process, we'll come back to our plan and make sure that we're on the right track. Finally, it will help us to tell when you've completed your goals and that therapy has worked.
