Getting to know Beth Donath

Hi, my name is Beth Donath-Tish. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New York, with a Master's in Social Work from Fordham University. I have experience working with teenagers and adults in a variety of settings. I have provided psychotherapy to adults at an outpatient psychiatry clinic in NYC, as well as seeing adults and teenagers privately. I have also provided counseling support to teenagers residing at an agency group home. Most recently, I have worked with the School Based Support Team for the NYC Department of Education. My role centers around conducting assessments for teenagers who will be evaluated for Special Education Services. I also provide At-Risk Counseling, Mandated Counseling, and MDR mandate meetings with parents and students regarding suspensions for students who have an IEP (Individualized Education Plan).

What should a new client know about working with you?

I would describe my counseling style as supportive and empathetic. I approach counseling through a client centered approach. I believe in meeting clients at the point where they feel most comfortable. Modalities I like to work with are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy and Psychotherapy. I also feel I provide each individual with the utmost respect. I find importance in having a team approach where client/clinician come up with a plan that is best suitable for the the individual.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I foremost like to have an initial meeting to introduce myself. I also feel it is important for me to listen to the potential client on what they are looking for in a supportive environment. Once it is felt the client would like to move forward a formal session can be set up. In working with clients I provide homework, such as worksheets that I feel would be of help. Most importantly I try to provide an environment where the client feels "emotionally safe" and feels supported.
