Beth Tilden, LMHC, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
My goal as a therapist is to create an open and comfortable space where we can work collaboratively to foster change. Together, we will explore both what is troubling and unrewarding for you, as well as strengths you may find hard to discern and fully realize. As you gain a better understanding of all aspects of yourself, we will work to transform patterns that no longer serve you and reimagine more satisfying ways of being. Our aim is to help you develop a more positive and capable sense of self, with a greater ability to face and overcome challenges. My approach to therapy is psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-focused. In sessions, we explore the connection between your past and present, as well as the challenges arising in your life now. I strive to create an emotionally safe and nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly about your life, and together we can address your concerns. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Adelphi University and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University, which inform my compassionate and comprehensive approach to therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have many years of experience with adults, children, couples and families and feel deep compassion for people and the challenges they face. In working with clients I see their many strengths, including a compelling desire to feel more comfortable with themselves and more capable and satisfied in their lives. I bring commitment to hearing your story and working collaboratively and I look forward to working together in this engaging and important process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In therapy sessions I want to create an emotionally safe space in which you can speak openly and fully. Sessions will follow your lead, exploring your concerns and emotional experience, as well as addressing the urgency of immediate challenges and the need to effect change. I will be actively involved and provide support, reflection and questions as we talk through challenging thoughts and feelings, experiences and dilemmas. There will be times that I redirect sessions to focus on an issue or key point that I think we need to be going into more fully, and at other times I will highlight strengths and abilities that I hear in how you are addressing your concerns. Ultimately we will be working collaboratively to create greater clarity and satisfaction in your life.
