What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy provides you with a unique opportunity to talk about life challenges in a safe, non-judgmental environment. During your first few sessions, you will be able to express concerns you may have about therapy and discuss your expectations for treatment. This is the time to be yourself, relax, and for us to get to know one another. The process of effective therapy is empowering, collaborative, and focused. You can change and heal by forming a trusting relationship with your therapist. In this phase, you will begin to uncover your needs by talking about your feelings and learning coping skills to address daily challenges in a new way. A common saying in therapy is, “if we can feel it, we can heal it.” Exploring feelings that may have fueled irrational beliefs, feelings, and behaviors in the past is important in achieving healing in therapy. Trusting your therapist and the therapeutic process can result in feeling understood and supported. Once this is achieved, healing can occur.
