With over twenty-five years of social work experience in various clinical settings, Bonnie has provided counseling to individuals and families seeking support to cope with life-threatening or chronic illnesses, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. She was employed at Sweetser in Saco, Maine, a school-based behavioral healthcare program serving children and families in home and school settings. Bonnie also provided counseling to adolescents, individuals, and couples in private practice for six years in Saco. She has a strong background in hospice and bereavement, working with children and adults on grief and loss in inpatient acute care settings.
More recently, Bonnie has focused on assisting older adults and their caregivers in navigating the complex healthcare system as an experienced guide, advocate, and resource, especially regarding neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. She continues to provide counseling to individuals and families coping with life-threatening and chronic illnesses.
In 2014, the Homecare and Hospice Alliance of Maine named Bonnie the Maine Caregiver of the Year, an award typically given to homecare or hospice nurses. Her treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths-based, narrative, and solution-focused therapies. Her philosophy embraces viewing the person through a biopsychosocial lens.
