“Brandon created a space for me to feel comfortable discussing deeply personal topics. One thing I enjoyed is how Brandon would ask me questions that encouraged me to think deeply, to question myself on why I have certain thought patterns, and in some cases, to realize how some of my own thoughts and worries were not based in reality or were very unlikely to happen.”

Getting to know Brandon Matassa

I am a compassionate psychotherapist dedicated to supporting individuals in navigating life's challenges and achieving personal growth. With an MSEd in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College, my approach is person-centered, evidence-based, and tailored to your unique needs. I specialize in anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ issues, and men's issues, striving to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard and empowered. Together, we will work toward building resilience, uncovering strengths, and fostering meaningful change. I'm currently accepting new clients and look forward to partnering with you on your journey to well-being!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means stepping into a judgment-free space where you can feel safe, supported, and truly heard. I believe therapy is most effective when you have the freedom to guide the direction of our sessions. Whether you want to explore a specific challenge or take a broader look at your life, I’m here to walk alongside you, providing guidance and insights along the way. I take a client-centered approach, considering all aspects of your life—relationships, work, personal values, and beyond—because I know that everything is connected. While I’m here to support you, I also enjoy challenging you in a constructive way to help you grow, gain new perspectives, and achieve the change you’re seeking. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s okay to feel unsure. Wherever you are in your journey, we’ll work together to make progress at a pace that feels right for you. You’ve already taken an important step, and I look forward to working with you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When we begin working together, the first step is to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing your story. In our initial sessions, I’ll ask about your concerns, goals, and the broader context of your life. This helps me understand who you are as a whole person, not just the challenges you’re facing. From there, we’ll collaborate to identify what you want to work on and the direction you’d like our sessions to take. While you guide the process, I’ll provide structure and tools to help you explore patterns, develop insights, and take actionable steps toward your goals. Each session is tailored to your needs, whether that means working through a specific issue or examining how different areas of your life intersect. I often challenge my clients in constructive ways to help them grow and uncover new perspectives, always in a supportive and judgment-free way. As we progress, we’ll regularly check in on your goals to ensure therapy is meeting your needs and helping you move forward. My ultimate aim is to empower you with the self-awareness and tools to make meaningful changes, both in therapy and beyond. Every client’s journey is unique, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Brandon is an amazing therapist who helped me not only deal with the current experiences, but probing back into formative moments and how my decision-making today is affected by them. I could not recommend him more.
This was my first time doing therapy and I was admittedly nervous. Brandon was attentive to my needs and thoughtful in his approach. I found that he challenged me without ever making me feel uncomfortable. For someone starting their therapy journey or who is seasoned and looking for someone new I would highly recommend him.
Great initial talk, looking forward to the next
