What should a new client know about working with you?

At Best Intentions Therapy by YYW Services, you are working with a coordinated group practice—five to six licensed therapists—so your care is supported by a clinical team, not a single silo. Our style is warm, structured, and practical: we combine genuine human connection with evidence-based therapy tools so sessions feel both supportive and productive. We focus on the “why” behind patterns (stress responses, trauma impacts, relationship cycles, avoidance, burnout), and we also build the “how” (emotion regulation, coping skills, boundaries, communication, and problem-solving you can apply in real life). You can expect us to be clear about goals, collaborative about pacing, and transparent about what we are doing and why. We do not rush your story, and we do not leave you with vague insight alone—therapy is designed to translate into measurable improvements in daily functioning, relationships, and overall stability. When appropriate, we coordinate services across systems and levels of care, including Medi-Cal supports such as ECM, Community Supports (CS), Justice-Involved (JI) services, and CalGETS problem gambling/addiction services. We also provide free community care for eligible low-income community members.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start by establishing safety, clarity, and a shared plan. Early sessions focus on understanding what brings you in now, what you want to be different, and what has helped or not helped in the past. We review symptoms, stressors, functioning, strengths, supports, and any risk concerns. From there, we identify a few realistic treatment targets (for example: fewer panic episodes, improved sleep, less conflict, more consistent routines, reduced triggers, healthier boundaries, or better emotional control during high-stress moments). Ongoing sessions are typically structured but flexible. Many clients find it helpful when sessions include: (1) a brief check-in on mood, stress, and what happened since last time; (2) identifying the “hot spot” issue for the day; (3) skills practice and problem-solving (emotion regulation, grounding, cognitive restructuring, communication, boundary-setting, relapse prevention, or values-based planning); and (4) a simple between-session plan so progress continues outside the therapy hour. We periodically review goals and adjust the plan as your needs change. Because we are a group practice, we can coordinate care when a higher level of support is needed or when multiple services apply—Medi-Cal ECM, CS, JI services, or CalGETS—so you are not left trying to navigate complex systems alone. The goal is steady progress, clear direction, and care that fits your real life.
