Getting to know Brandy Poblete-Scaglione

Hey, thanks for stopping by to check out my profile. My name is Brandy (she/they) and I am an LMHC seeing patients for virtual care on the weekends and some federal holidays. I presently work full-time for a federal agency which is why my online private practice presence is kept to weekends and federal holidays at this time. The world is a very heavy place for those of us in the LGBTQIA+ community, federal and healthcare workers. The beginning of 2025 was rough for many of us. I myself felt listless, unsure how I could have any impact until I remembered something Mr. Rogers had said about looking for the helpers during hard times...and that's exactly what I went to get my graduate degree for. My life prepared me for times like these. I had to double down instead of feeling like backing down. So here I am and guess what? Here you are too! So let me tell you a bit more about my approach as a therapist. My approach has its roots in humanistic practice. Through the utilization of motivational interviewing, socratic questioning and warm guidance I work alongside you to build a foundation of trust, then exploration together. Nothing is worse than starting a journey with a faulty compass so we spend a few sessions here, making sure we are a good fit, you feel like therapy is where you want to be and that the timing is right. All three of these things have to line up! Without our therapeutic rapport, your motivation and your time...change will be a pretty hard goal to meet. I would be a good fit for clients who are looking to try therapy for the first time, are curious about therapy or are wanting to "try out" therapy for the first time. I would NOT be a good fit for clients who are looking for structured long-term therapy, looking to have paperwork completed for housing, legal, work or family needs, ect. Due to my limited availability and virtual only platform, I do not meet most requirements that these entities require.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy fostering an informal, laid back environment in which we can discuss the reasons you are seeking mental health counseling. My goal is to hear, in your own words, what you desire to gain from counseling, the challenges you believe you may be facing and the areas in which you may be feeling stuck. Having worked in the mental health field for over ten years, in a variety of different settings and populations, I am able to draw upon my experience and offer potential avenues of treatment. I enjoy bringing in some lightness to our sessions as we work together through utilizing humor as well as moments where I may bring in off the wall comparisons. I believe the healing journey can come with both heavy and light aspects. I do enjoy bringing in home assignments so that your therapy continues outside of session...new behavior is much like working out a new muscle! I'll be honest, sometimes in session I am not even sure what comes out of my mouth next but that nuance is how you know our sessions stay individualized and each person I work with gets that specific level of care curated for them. All of that being said, therapy is very much a two way street as well. You will only get out of it what you are willing to put in so please come in willing to seek some kind of change, education or healing space so that I can help you along your journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Typically our first session is our most clinical and formal. We will need to confirm your information, insurance, paperwork and reasons for seeking care. I will complete a more formal intake and be sure to check on your overall safety. I would also like to end our session having a good idea on what you would like to gain from mental health counseling over the next 3 and 6 months. In our follow-up session I would like to check-in from the intake, see if you have any clarifying questions and then formalize our treatment plan together. Here is where I can discuss the differing avenues of treatment, what those entail and answer your questions. From there we will determine and lock in our future appointments. The therapy that aligns with your treatment plan will depend a lot on your specific concerns, goals and timeline.

Brandy is incredibly caring and relatable. Im very excited to continue to see her. Her availability works very well for my busy schedule.
It is truly refreshing to finally be heard and seen by a provider. It’s nice to be treated as an individual where the care is tailored to me and my needs rather than trying to use a cookie cutter type of plan of care. I am lucky to have found them as they collaborate with me every step of the way ensuring to help me break free of my shackles from my past that has kept me down for so long. For once in a very long time ( I have seen a million therapist), I am hopeful that I will regain control over my life.

Brandy was able to display a deep sense of empathy and genuine compassion right away. She helped foster a safe and supportive space where I felt seen, heard, and understood. What stood out most was their ability to quickly build a strong rapport—something that can often take time in therapy, but with Brandy it felt natural and effortless. Her patience and attentiveness were evident during our conversation. She took the time to truly understand not just what I was going through, but who I am as a person. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, Brandy collaborated with me every step of the way to develop a care plan that was uniquely tailored to my needs, preferences, and goals. I'm genuinely excited about the therapy plan we’ve crafted together—it feels aligned, achievable, and full of hope. For anyone seeking a therapist who is not only skilled but deeply compassionate and collaborative, I can’t recommend Brandy enough.
