Brayden Hanks, MA

Psychotherapist

People don't come to therapy because they're broken — they come because something in them knows they're ready to grow. My role isn't to hand out answers, but to ask the right questions and create the space for something real to happen between us. I'm a therapist with a background in critical care, which means I've spent nearly a decade learning how to stay calm and curious in the moments that matter most. That experience shaped the way I show up in the room — steady, attentive, and genuinely interested in the person in front of me, not just the presenting problem. I work primarily with men, healthcare workers, and early-career professionals navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity questions, and the kind of emotional weight that tends to go unnamed for too long. My approach is collaborative and direct — I'll listen closely, notice what's there, and when the moment calls for it, I'll gently challenge you toward something better.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is a collaboration — which means you're not a passenger. I'll bring curiosity, care, and a genuine commitment to your growth, and I'll ask you to bring the same. You don't need to have it all figured out before you walk in. You just need to be willing to be honest. I believe healing happens in relationship — in the experience of being truly heard by another person and choosing to speak anyway. I take that responsibility seriously. I also believe in celebrating small wins. Progress in therapy doesn't always announce itself loudly, and one of the things I do well is noticing the quiet moments of shift and naming them out loud. Some sessions I might follow your lead and ask you to show me around — to tell me what's on your mind and where you want to go. Other sessions I might bring something specific into focus that you didn't know we were heading toward. Both are intentional. I'm not here to give advice or tell you who to be. I'm here to help you figure that out for yourself.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is about getting oriented together. I'll want to understand what brought you in, what's felt hard, and what you're hoping for — not just symptom by symptom, but as a whole person. I tend to ask questions that might feel unexpected, because I'm often as interested in the context around a problem as the problem itself. From there, we'll settle into a rhythm that fits you. I don't run every session from a script. Some days we'll go deep into something specific. Other days we'll step back and look at the bigger picture. I draw from evidence-based approaches while staying flexible to what's actually useful for the individual in front of me. For the men and healthcare workers I work with, there's often a particular kind of tiredness — from performing competence, from not having a space to be uncertain, from carrying a lot without a language for it. Part of what I offer is simply that space. And from there, we build.
