Brenda Acevedo, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
My name is Brenda Acevedo, and I have over 14 years of experience working in the mental health field in Texas. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I began working with the State of Texas as a social worker helping the indigent population in 2010. Since then, I have worked with adults (men, women, LGBTQ-IA), children, couples, the elderly, and families. I have experience with the Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD) population, addictions, trauma, and crisis. Specifically, I have worked with clients diagnosed with Paranoid Personality Disorder (PPD), Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Major Depression. I have served a variety of populations across a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. I am also proficient in working with diverse cultures, using multicultural counseling techniques. My therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian, and Reality Therapy. I appreciate these theories because I believe in getting to the root of the presented problem to address where it stems from. This way, clients' needs are not only addressed, but symptoms are reduced. Receiving answers and understanding the problem can motivate a client to problem-solve. Together, we can work toward a resolution that works best. Using the Adlerian growth model assists clients in growing toward their better selves by finding meaning and creating their vision of a better life.
