Getting to know Brenda Barba
I am so glad you are taking the first step in this journey! My name is Brenda Barba, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Bakersfield. I have been in the mental health profession for 5 years, and in the field for nearly 10. I enjoy what I do and continually educate myself to provide the best service to individuals who want to grow, heal, control emotions, increase self-awareness and confidence, and learn coping skills to reach their best selves. I have worked with a wide range of mental health diagnoses including personality disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. My approach varies—I use psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, or integrative approaches, whichever fits the individual's therapy goals.
My approach
I first develop a healthy foundation, build rapport, and create a safe space. Finding a therapist who feels right and can be trusted is important. I most commonly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because it works! Therapy is always person-centered. You tell me what you need, and I guide you to your treatment goals. I help uncover unconscious thoughts to understand feelings and reactions (psychodynamic). I help identify and eliminate negative or maladaptive behaviors causing conflict (behavioral). I help you understand how thoughts lead to feelings and actions (cognitive). I validate rational decisions that help you reach your potential (humanistic). Or I combine these approaches and modify them to best fit your therapeutic goals (integrative).
