Psychotherapist
LA
Hi there, I'm Brenda! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 30 years of experience working with all types of mood disorders and addictions. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor's degree from Louisiana Christian University. My approach is not just about helping my clients learn to cope with problems but also helping them experience joy, hope, and contentment in their lives. My approach I help my clients let go of negativity from whatever source and begin to approach life with a positive, confident outlook. My method involves the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness, and Gestalt. My focus I enjoy working with clients who are open to new thoughts and ideas and willing to try new approaches to their problems-whether worries, fears, or situations. I am comfortable working with clients experiencing depression, mood swings, anxiety, co-occurring disorders, and general emotional distress. My communication style My approach is one of warmth, active listening, and empathy. Both laughter and tears are welcome in session. My strength is emotional intelligence, and I want each client to feel accepted and respected as a unique individual. My journey to mental healthcare I went back to school at age 41 to become a psychologist. In the first semester, I took an Introduction to Social Work class. Midway through the semester, I changed my major to Social Work. I knew I wanted to be in this "helping profession," and I have never regretted this decision. My goals for you First, we identify the problem or what you want to change and the desired outcome. Next, I will encourage and guide you to develop a goal that is attainable and measurable. Once the goal is clearly defined, you and I will begin a Treatment Plan-a map of how to get there.
