What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting counseling can feel like a big step, and it’s important to know what working together will look like. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and supported from the very first session. I take a collaborative and down-to-earth approach to therapy. This means we work together to identify your goals and build a plan that fits your unique situation. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model—our work will be tailored to your needs, pace, and strengths. You can expect honesty, consistency, and a nonjudgmental environment. I will meet you where you are, while also gently challenging you when it supports your growth. Therapy with me is active and engaging—we’ll focus not only on understanding challenges, but also on developing practical tools you can use in your daily life. For teens and families, I value open communication and collaboration while also respecting appropriate boundaries and confidentiality. For foster and adoptive families, and those involved in DCS or juvenile systems, I understand the added layers these experiences bring and strive to provide both guidance and advocacy-informed support. Progress in therapy can take time, and some conversations may feel difficult—but you won’t be navigating them alone. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support, structure, and encouragement as you move toward meaningful and lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My Process 1. Initial Contact & Scheduling The process begins when you reach out by phone, email, or through my website. I’ll respond to answer any questions, briefly discuss your needs, and schedule an intake appointment that works for you. 2. Intake Session The first session is focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to counseling. We’ll review important background information, current concerns, and any relevant history. I’ll also go over policies, confidentiality, and answer any questions you may have so you feel informed and comfortable moving forward. 3. Building Rapport & Setting Goals In the early sessions, we focus on building trust and creating a strong therapeutic relationship. Feeling safe and understood is essential for meaningful progress. Together, we’ll identify your goals and what you hope to gain from counseling, and begin outlining a plan that fits your needs. 4. Ongoing Therapy Sessions Regular sessions are where the deeper work happens. Depending on your situation, we may focus on developing coping skills, processing experiences, improving communication, or addressing patterns that are keeping you stuck. Sessions are collaborative, practical, and tailored to your pace. For teens, families, and clients involved in DCS or juvenile systems, this may also include coordination with caregivers or other supports when appropriate, while still maintaining clear boundaries around confidentiality. 5. Progress & Adjustment As we move forward, we’ll regularly check in on your progress and adjust goals or approaches as needed. Therapy is a flexible process, and I want to ensure it continues to meet you where you are. Throughout the entire process, my goal is to provide a supportive, structured, and respectful environment where you can feel confident in your growth.
