Brenda Russell, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Brenda! I've been a helping professional providing direct services since 2008 when I became an addiction specialist. I returned to school in 2017 to earn my MA in Psychology with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University. I am passionate about helping people cultivate their best selves. Therapy offers a safe, confidential space to explore your strengths and life patterns, gaining clarity and skills to create meaningful change. Whether navigating life transitions, healing from past experiences, managing mental and emotional health, or seeking personal growth, I support you in the journey. My approach I engage the counseling process using a solution-focused, client-centered approach. I am warm and convey unconditional positive regard. My therapy approach is often cognitive-behavioral and family systems. I also use a psychodynamic approach because our entire story influences how we experience ourselves, others, and life today. My focus I have experience treating anxiety/panic disorders, PTSD/trauma and stressor-related disorders, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I also have extensive experience treating substance use disorders; however, substance issues are best addressed once a client decides it is a problem. My communication style Personal growth can be painful and joyful but always worthwhile. I work collaboratively with clients to build agency and confidence and find skills to create positive change. I instill hope and help clients gain insight into factors that create barriers or contribute to problems. Together we find unique solutions tailored to your needs and goals. My journey to mental healthcare I became a therapist because a therapist helped me. I believe life is meant to be enjoyed, and it can be, despite circumstances, hardships, or barriers.
