Psychotherapist
4300 Punjab Way, Ste 180, Frisco, TX
Brenna Nelson is supervised by Jennifer Kendall. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, I've had the privilege of guiding individuals, couples, and families through their therapeutic journeys. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelor's degree from Texas Woman's University. My strength-based, holistic, and integrative approach is tailored to resonate with your unique journey. I blend techniques from expressive arts, the mind-body connection, and attachment theory to craft an experience that feels both personal and transformative. Core Therapeutic Focus Areas: 1. Trauma: The aftereffects of trauma can silently permeate our daily lives. Recognizing and confronting trauma can be daunting, but you don't have to face it alone. My approach provides trauma-informed care, ensuring that together, we face, understand, and heal from past traumas. 2. Finding Your Authentic Self: True health and happiness stem from feeling loved and accepted for who we genuinely are. We'll work together to bolster your self-esteem, break unhealthy generational patterns, and pave the path for you to embrace and celebrate your authentic self. 3. Teens: With a significant percentage of adolescents grappling with mental health challenges-especially within the LGBTQIA+ and minority communities-it's vital they have a haven to express and grow. I offer this refuge, helping them navigate the complexities of teenage life, building resilience, self-esteem, and a robust sense of self. 4. Couples and Families: Relationships form the crux of our lives. I adopt a systemic approach, recognizing the symbiotic relationship between individuals and their relationships. Whether it's setting healthy boundaries, honing communication skills, or simply forging deeper bonds, our sessions will aim to strengthen and rejuvenate the family unit.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Embarking on therapy with me means stepping into a haven tailored for understanding and empathy, especially crafted for teens and individuals grappling with anxiety or depression. As a therapist specializing in these areas, I combine a deep knowledge of adolescent development with the nuances of mental health challenges to offer interventions that truly resonate. Each session is designed to be a platform where you can share without reservation, knowing that your feelings, concerns, and aspirations are held in confidence and care. Our work together is a partnership; we'll co-create strategies and set achievable goals that align with your unique journey. I hold the belief that, through the ebbs and flows of emotions, one can discover an inner resilience and strength. Utilizing evidence-based techniques, we'll navigate the challenges of anxiety and depression, ensuring our strategies are rooted in proven methodologies. Feedback is an essential part of our collaborative process, and occasionally, I might introduce exercises or resources to reinforce our in-session work. Commitment to this therapeutic endeavor is crucial, yet I understand life's unpredictability, and aim to be as accommodating as possible. As we delve into this healing journey, keep in mind that our ultimate aim is to equip you with the tools and understanding to face life's complexities with confidence and clarity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The process begins when you schedule your first appointment. Once you have requested the appointment, someone from our office will contact you to confirm your information and send you the new patient paperwork. Once that is complete, your therapist will contact you to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have before your first appointment. During your first visit, you and your therapist will get to know one another and create a tailored plan for reaching your goals. At the end of the first session, you and your therapist will discuss how often to meet and set up your next appointment. Following your initial session, subsequent appointments will delve deeper into the topics and areas you've chosen to explore, using therapeutic methods tailored to your unique needs. Our approach is collaborative; your feedback and comfort are paramount. Regular check-ins during the course of therapy ensure that the sessions remain aligned with your evolving goals and needs. Throughout the therapeutic journey, we also provide resources, exercises, and readings when appropriate, ensuring you feel supported both inside and outside our sessions. As progress is made, you and your therapist will collaboratively reassess goals and the frequency of meetings, ensuring that you always receive the best care and support for you.
