Brett Murphy, LPC

Psychotherapist
GA
I am a licensed professional counselor in Colorado, Missouri, Georgia, Texas, and Florida (telehealth only in Fl.) and I specialize in helping people overcome substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma. In my years of experience, I have worked in private practice, community mental health, & state and federal agencies. I received my Master of Arts from Asbury Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida. I genuinely love what I do and feel helping people overcome, heal, and find peace on earth is a fight worth contending for. I have a plethora of life experience working in construction, food service, and various ministries that adds to my experience as a son, husband, and father. Style My approach to counseling stems from the belief that pain is our best teacher and our response to it sets a course for our lives. Existential questions of belief, meaning, value, and belonging can either be deeply nourishing for our souls or tear us apart if unhealthy. Out of our mouth comes the outpouring of our hearts, and thus the question, “how is your heart”? Pain and suffering is a part of life but our response is something unique to each of our stories and it’s never too late to change the narrative and improve our relationships. In other words, I find value in integrating the stories and teachings from history with modern day theories of existentialism, attachment based, and cognitive - behavioral real world practical nuts and bolts. I am good at bringing things down to earth and making a plan that is both understandable and practical. Flavor Counseling is similar to having a conversation with an old friend, but without the strings attached, where the focus is always on your growth and concerns. While I am able to diagnose according to my state license and find value in the medical model by the way, I also believe in the power and value of relationships.
