Getting to know Brettny John

Hi, my name is Brettny (pronounced BRIT-nee). I have experience helping people with depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addiction, and other mental illnesses. I use collaborative and evidence-based approaches. I was born in India and raised in Chicago and Houston. Cultural awareness is important to me, and I incorporate many aspects of my Indian culture into my life, such as food, language, and values. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games and board games. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas, Tyler, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, Austin. My top modalities are Cognitive Behavior Therapy and a Mindfulness approach. I always let the client lead sessions and steer conversation based on what they have already shared and how they respond to what I say. I make sure to work with clients on what they want to focus on and how they want to work on it. My specialties include Depression, Anxiety, and Drug/Alcohol Addiction. I worked at a drug addiction outpatient facility in Houston for a year and a half and have since worked in Telehealth. I am open to working with clients facing any problem but prefer those who are serious about feeling and behaving better and who commit to therapy until their goals are met. I also value clients who complete the therapy homework they agree to do. In sessions (except for the intake), I start by asking how things have been going. If clients have a lot to share, we continue from there. If not, I inquire about one of the problems they mentioned previously, which usually becomes the focus of our work. I prefer to take notes during sessions to remember all parts of the problem and ensure continuous progress. My communication style is empathetic and involves active listening. I let clients speak freely and check for understanding when they finish.

Had an initial visit with Brettny and then she didn't show up to our second appointment, not a great way for a therapist to build a relationship of trust.
