Getting to know Brian Abell

I am an LCSW with 30 years of experience in mental health. During that time, I have held roles ranging from an “Overnight/Stay-awake” staff member in residential facilities to a crisis intervention worker performing suicide and homicide evaluations, and most recently, Clinical Director of a mental health program for a large company. Throughout my career, a strong desire to help others and a gift for building rapport and strong working relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds have remained consistent. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento, which laid the foundation for my clinical practice. In providing treatment, I draw from a variety of modalities to tailor the experience to the individual, couple, family, or group I am working with. These modalities include, but are not limited to, Behaviorism, CBT and DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Harm Reduction, and Psychoeducation. Additionally, I pride myself on offering help in a realistic and “down to earth” way that may include professional and purposeful self-disclosure, as well as communicating in a manner that conveys unconditional positive regard.
