Brian Hilburn, LPC

Psychotherapist
199 Charmant Pl, Ste 1, Ridgeland, MS
I take a client-centered approach to therapy and call my office a SHAME FREE ZONE. I bring a unique style of empathy and compassion, from a place of humility and vulnerability that I hope makes clients feel safe and trusting. I love to share my enthusiasm for life through encouragement, and love to interject humor into sessions, when appropriate. I am very involved with media and production at my church, and away from counseling and men’s groups, you’ll likely find me spending time with my family in my favorite role, as uncle, to my two nieces and a nephew.

Getting to know Brian Hilburn

I take a client-centered approach to therapy and call my office a SHAME FREE ZONE. I bring a unique style of empathy and compassion, from a place of humility and vulnerability that I hope makes clients feel safe and trusting. I love to share my enthusiasm for life through encouragement, and love to interject humor into sessions, when appropriate. I am very involved with media and production at my church, and away from counseling and men’s groups, you’ll likely find me spending time with my family in my favorite role, as uncle, to my two nieces and a nephew.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer a warm, collaborative, and shame-free therapy space where you can feel safe being fully yourself. My goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and hopeful — even when you’re walking through difficult or painful experiences. My style is empathetic, non-judgmental, and relational. I believe meaningful change happens through a strong therapeutic connection, so I take time to get to know you and what matters most in your life. Sessions often include encouragement, curiosity, and occasionally appropriate humor to help ease the process. I use evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs, including EMDR for trauma, Gottman-informed couples therapy, and attachment-focused and cognitive-behavioral strategies. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all — we work together to identify goals and move at a pace that feels right for you. Your first visit is focused on understanding what brought you in, what you’re hoping for, and whether we’re a good fit. You don’t need to have everything figured out — just showing up is enough.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is collaborative, relational, and tailored to your needs. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and are structured but flexible, depending on what feels most helpful that day. In early sessions, we focus on getting to know you — what brings you in, your goals for therapy, and important life experiences that help shape your story. I take time to build a strong, trusting connection, as I believe safety and rapport are essential for meaningful change. A typical session may include talking through current stressors, exploring emotional or relational patterns, and identifying practical tools you can use outside of sessions. When appropriate, we may also do deeper work using approaches like EMDR or attachment-focused therapy to address trauma, shame, or long-standing patterns. I regularly check in about progress and adjust our work together as needed. Therapy is paced intentionally — never rushed — and guided by what feels right for you.
