Brian Kornobis, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Through working with adults, children, and families over the last 12 years, and through personal experience, I've learned that people thrive when they feel connected to safe and loving relationships. It’s those relationships that we rely on when life gets difficult or when we need the confidence to take risks and explore new directions. I’ve devoted my work as a therapist to helping others find, maintain, and repair their relationships, often starting with the relationship with oneself. My background includes clinical roles at an outpatient mental health clinic, college counseling center, and various schools in the Bay Area. I’m experienced in working with relationship conflict, grief, trauma, anxiety, existential and spiritual concerns, men’s issues, depression, and life transitions. I work “experientially” with clients, moving beyond talking about issues to connecting with feelings as experienced in the moment. This is a highly effective way of moving through stuck feelings into greater emotional well-being. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Smith College and a Bachelor’s degree from Adelphi University. As a therapist, I practice from an anti-oppressive approach, understanding how aspects of identity affect lived experience, including gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, class, age, ability, and spirituality/religion. As a white, cisgender, able-bodied man, I engage in my own process of learning and unlearning how my identities shape my values, actions, and impact on others. I strive to provide safety for others to show up as their authentic selves. I show up as my authentic self to my work, knowing genuine connection is the basis for truly helping another. I’m compassionate, warm, open-minded, curious, and lean toward seeing strengths and inherent goodness in people. In my personal life, I care for myself through meditation, reading, playing sports, and spending time in nature.
