Brian Sullivan, LGPC

Psychotherapist
6300 Woodside Ct, Columbia, MD
My approach to working with clients is informed by the practices of Carl Rogers, developing a trusting and respectful rapport through the core conditions of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. Modalities I often utilize include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), motivational interview (MI), narrative therapy, and strengths-based approaches. It is my strongly held belief that, while clinicians often come to the therapeutic partnership with expertise in clinical areas, clients remain experts of themselves and their lived experiences, making their insights, preferences, perspectives, and goals an invaluable resource to their treatment. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counselor from Messiah University and am a member of the American Counseling Association, the Maryland Counseling Association, and the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International. I have worked with diverse clients facing diverse life obstacles, with clinical experience helping clients treat and address obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), bipolar, and cooccurring substance use disorders.
