Brittani Wilson, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NC
I am so happy you are here. The decision to begin (or deepen) therapy is a big one. It can be hard to reach out, but you have made it to the first (and often hardest) step. I help clients navigate life when they have faced adversity. This may be just a few bumps in the road or it may feel like a tsunami hitting you over and over. Whether you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, grief and loss, or behavioral needs, I am here to help. I am skilled at working with clients who have a history of trauma, whether they are aware of it or not. Trauma often shows up as behavioral issues in children, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, low self-esteem, anxiety, or relationship difficulties. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you through your healing journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have spent an extensive amount of time deepening my understanding of human attachment, our nervous systems, executive functioning and childhood symptoms of trauma. I approach therapy with a person first, compassionate based lens. I believe you are the expert of your own lives and I am there to help you deepen your understanding of yourself and the world around you in a way that promotes resilience, self-awareness and understanding. When we understand why we feel the way we do and why we do what we do, we can meet ourselves with understanding, compassion and the ability to make lasting change. I work with children and families to meet each other with understanding, and an open mind. I am able to work with children with a variety of needs and their families. My job is not to change the person but to help provide skills that you can use to create a life of resilience despite adversity. I have extensive experience with mild to severe behavioral difficulties and can provide tangible, immediate solutions that may assist you at home. I have extensive experience within the school setting and I understand the issues that may affect a child in that setting. I am able to work with schools on how to best meet your child's needs. Many session incorporate play based learning and skills to meet the developmental

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Most sessions will be collaborative in nature. If there is something pressing that we need to process, talk about and problem solve we will always do that first. If there is not anything pressing, we will continue from the last session as each sessions builds on each other. The skills learned in one session, lends itself to deeper conversation, more skill building, and new perspectives later. Each session will work towards developing resilience, feeling empowered and being able to create our story despite difficult times, adversity, and bumps in the road.
