Psychotherapist

Many people spend their days putting on a mask and holding it together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck underneath. You may understand what you’re doing—even why you’re doing it—but still find yourself repeating the same patterns, ultimately resulting in frustration, self-blame, guilt, or shame. I work with young adults and adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, substance use, postpartum concerns, abuse, and major life transitions. What I’m most interested in is helping you understand the deeper emotions beneath the coping mechanisms that keep you stuck in cycles of shame and self-blame. Rather than viewing less-than-helpful patterns as “bad things” to eliminate, we get curious about what they do for you, where they came from, and what might offer you more lasting relief, contentment, and peace in their place.

Getting to know Brittany Kay

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and never judged so you can finally take off that mask and explore who you are underneath. I’m here to walk alongside you as you better understand yourself and your needs, build trust in your thoughts and emotions, and make changes that feel sustainable outside the therapy room. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Professional and Technical Writing from the University of South Florida and a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is warm, conversational, and collaborative, but I’m also not afraid to challenge you when needed to help gently nudge you out of your stuckness. I draw from cognitive behavioral, emotion-focused, somatic, and strengths-based approaches, tailoring therapy to the person rather than expecting you to fit within a particular model. I’m authentically curious about the experiences that have shaped who you are, and I want to help you develop that same curiosity toward yourself.
