Brooke Butler, LMFT Associate

Psychotherapist
TX
Brooke Butler is supervised by Nadia Bakir. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist from Austin, Texas. After graduating from Texas State University with a major in psychology, I decided to pursue a career in counseling. I was accepted into Abilene Christian University, where I earned my master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. During my residency, I found so much fulfillment in holding space for my clients to truly let their guard down and explore the traumas, patterns, and beliefs that were keeping them stuck. I chose the name Evolution Austin Therapy because I believe evolving is the main reason people seek counseling. Just like a caterpillar evolving into a butterfly, evolving into your full potential and into the person you want to be might feel messy, painful, and vulnerable at first, but putting in the work and consistently showing up for yourself will always lead to something beautiful. In my free time, I love spending time with friends and family, reading, and meditating. I like to refer to myself as a ?nutritarian,? a term coined by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, meaning someone who eats whole food, plant-based, nutrient-rich foods to take the best care of mind, body, and soul through nutrition. I enjoy cooking for myself and my partner and living an active lifestyle. I believe living a healthy lifestyle is NOT about a number on the scale but about feeling energized and healthy enough to fully express yourself regardless of your size or weight. While I graduated with my master's from a predominantly Christian university, I always want to hold the whole client regardless of their religion, spirituality, or lack thereof, and I am not afraid of the ?woo woo.? I honor all of who you are, support all of who you are, and am here to hold your hand through your evolution into who you want to be.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style with my clients is always open, and honest. I believe therapy should be a judgement free zone, and that is what I create with my clients. We can get curious about patterns, beliefs, and thoughts you have that might be sabotaging you without creating any shame around those. While I have training in many different modalities such as EFT, IFS, DBT, and mindfulness among others, I do everything with a poly-vagal lens. I always want to help my clients recognize, and regulate their nervous system and how the state of their nervous system might be impacting how they view the world around them. In our very first session, we will go through some basic questions around your background to get to know you better, and start looking at some goals you have for therapy, and what positive movement towards those goals would look like to you. While therapy is not a magic pill, I truly believe having a space that is safe, inviting, and understanding is an invaluable tool to have when working on your mental health, and working towards your goals. I am currently seeing clients virtually only. This allows me to see a more diverse population of clients from all over the state of Texas.
