Brooke Hatfield, LCSW

Brooke Hatfield, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a licensed psychotherapist based in Brooklyn, New York. I hold a Master's in Social Work from New York University and a Bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music. As a therapist, I strive to provide an open, non-judgmental, collaborative space for my clients to process past experiences and safely explore their emotions. I work from a psychodynamic lens, understanding that our current struggles with anxiety and depression are rooted in our early childhood experiences. Through my work as a therapist, I have come to understand that much of our pain stems from toxic shame developed in early childhood, which is then reinforced by oppressive structures and systems in our society. My goal is to aid others in healing their toxic shame, working toward fostering internal self-worth through the use of self-compassion, mindfulness, and inner child work and interventions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I don't see people as broken or damaged but as products of what has happened to them. Together, I help client's unpack these experiences to understand what is beneath their beliefs, patterns and behaviors. I am a firm believer that everyone has inherent worth. I believe that everyone is worthy and deserving of love, compassion and connection. My ultimate goal is to move client's towards a place of rediscovering their worth, using interventions from psychodynamic, IFS, self-compassion and inner child work modalities.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am a hands on therapist who provides feedback to help client's dig deeper to be able to explore the route of an issue. I expect my client's to want to unpack the uncomfortable experiences they have experienced, I do this in a safe and contained way. I also expect my clients to do the work outside of sessions to integrate what we work on together in therapy.
