Psychotherapist
CA
I have over 14 years of experience working in community mental health with diverse populations throughout California, USA, and Germany. I have been a lifelong advocate for members of the LGBTQI population. After completing my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in San Jose, California, in 2013, I embarked on completing over 3,000 intern hours with diverse populations, including children and young adults, families with children and youth on the Autism spectrum, and adults healing from trauma. What I like most about being a therapist is seeing clients gain skills in working with and around emotional blocks and beliefs about themselves that are no longer useful to them. I have witnessed clients heal from traumas such as sexual abuse and go on to make powerful, positive changes in their relationships with themselves, friends, families, and careers. In session, we will work hard together to remove the internal cycle of shame and blame that gets in the way of you accepting and respecting yourself as the capable adult you have become but may just not yet realize. I am a graduate of John F. Kennedy University’s Counseling Psychology program, with training in Expressive Arts therapies, Somatic (body-informed) therapy, and Transpersonal psychology. In 2015, I completed and received certification in iRest Level 1 training, a mindfulness-based therapy that uses guided meditation and body awareness to heal from trauma and PTSD. I am also a graduate of the Mirror Training Program at the Process Therapy Institute and am proficient in using Gestalt Therapy and The Process Model to help clients overcome their defenses and self-sabotaging habits that get in the way of living a more fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Using Mindfulness in and Outside of Sessions Often with the stress and distractions of everyday life we loose touch with our authentic selves. Unbalanced life situations such as poor work life balance, codependency, people pleasing, taking care of others and out dated ways of coping the challenges of life. Self awareness and self appreciation is a muscle just like any other and it takes practice to unlearn old habits that reinforce negative feelings and self perceptions. They are called mindfulness “exercises” for a reason! In session we will “work out” your innate ability to create a calm, introspective and peaceful state of my from which you will be better suited to met challenging emotions or circumstances.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Using IFS; Internal Family Systems When we we talk about Internal Family Systems (IFS) one important concept is that of “The Self”, being in Self and experiencing life and reaching to it from Self. It can be easy to experience the feeling of being in self in times we are engaged in activities that bring us into Self easily. Athletes and artists know this experience well and often describe this feeling of “being in the zone or being in flow.” When we are in this state of being we can engage with what Richard Swartz, founder of IFS Therapy “ tabled “The 8 C’s”; Curiosity, Compassion, Clarity, Connectedness, Creativity, Courage, Confidence, Calm.
