Cara Blouin, LPC

Psychotherapist
5219 Webster St, Philadelphia, PA
My name is Cara. I’m a licensed therapist in Pennsylvania. I went back to school for a career change after ten years in education and non-profits. I got my Master’s at Temple, and I’m a graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Philadelphia. I teach psychology to undergraduate students. I’m a person-centered therapist, which basically means that I don’t see myself as knowing more about you than yourself. It’s important to me to be honest with you about who I am and what’s happening in our therapeutic or teaching relationship. I’ll only work with you if I think we can do good work together. I’m also a mindfulness teacher certified through the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program in the insight (vipassana) tradition led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, and the co-founder of West Philly Insight. I’m a cis white woman, and I believe in owning my identities and the impact they have on my relationships. Anti-racism work has been central to my life and training. I don’t think therapy or meditation can exclude awareness of social location. These are my guesses about what it might be useful for you to know about me- but we can always talk about what you might need to know to feel comfortable working with me!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I focus on codependency, burnout, perfectionism and compassion fatigue. I also work with many clients facing life transitions of all kinds, particularly relationship issues and religious trauma. This may show up as CPTSD, ADHD, OCD or anxiety and depression.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am a person-centered gestalt therapist who believes in building honest human relationships with clients. I am a trained gestalt therapist, so I generally use talk therapy rooted in the therapeutic relationship, but I also use mindfulness and somatic (body rooted) approaches. I am certified in working with Compassion Fatigue for caring professionals and am a certified mindfulness meditation teacher.
