Getting to know Cara Haynie-Peña

Hi, my name is Cara. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with more than 20 years of experience providing individual and couples therapy. I received a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1995 and a master's degree in 1997 in counseling and educational psychology from Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi. I have had a private practice since 2005 while also working in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient mental health and rehabilitation facilities, correctional facilities and university counseling centers. I am able to see clients, all over the State of Texas, through a HIPAA compliant confidential video link, a very convenient way to get therapy. The hardest step to take is that first step. I applaud your courage and look forward to working with you to overcome challenges and obstacles to meet your greatest potential in a non-judgmental, non-biased and safe atmosphere.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Respect, trust and empathy are critical components of the therapeutic relationship. No matter what issue a client may bring to therapy, they may be assured that I will respect them and support them in their struggle to wholeness and resolution. Additionally, I strive to provide a safe space for an individual to process through difficult and painful emotions and experiences while also assisting them in holding themselves accountable for the changes they want to make in their lives. It is important to me that my clients know that I feel their pain with them and yet I am able to still offer objectivity to help them move beyond the pain to genuine healing.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
