Getting to know Cara Swisher

Throughout therapy, we’ll work together to recognize and build on your strengths, develop coping skills, and create changes that feel meaningful and realistic for your life. When working with children, I incorporate age-appropriate activities, play, creativity, and conversation to help them feel comfortable expressing themselves, understanding their emotions, and developing new skills. With teens and adults, sessions may include conversation, reflection, practical strategies, and opportunities to explore patterns, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels manageable and meaningful.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy should meet you where you are. You don’t have to know exactly what to say, have everything figured out, or even know where to begin before walking through the door. We can figure that out together. I’ll work alongside you to better understand what you’re experiencing, identify what you need, and find meaningful ways to move forward. Because no two people are the same, I tailor therapy to each individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw from different therapeutic approaches and tools based on your needs, goals, and what feels most helpful for you. Throughout the process, I want therapy to feel collaborative and genuine—a place where you feel heard, supported, and comfortable showing up as your authentic self.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I start by getting to know you as a person—not just what brings you to therapy, but what you’re experiencing, what matters to you, and what you hope to gain from our time together. Building a comfortable and trusting relationship is important to me, so I take time to create that foundation before moving into deeper work. Throughout therapy, we’ll work together to recognize and build on your strengths, develop coping skills, and create changes that feel meaningful and realistic for your life. I understand that everyone’s needs are different, so I’ll continue adjusting my approach based on what works best for you and where you are in your journey.
