Carisa Galloway, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
I treat patients based on their personal uniqueness, as well as the uniqueness of their situation. Providing a professional relationship with clients allows them to feel they are in a safe and confidential space. This allows them to freely discuss what is important to them. As a therapist, I work hard to operate off of a person-centered and empathetic foundation, while offering beneficial challenges and growth opportunities for every client I encounter. Working through any issue is challenging, but it is through those challenges that we learn and grow. Growth is essential to being able to move forward. Don't allow yourself to get stuck in your issues. Take care of yourself by allowing someone to come up beside you and walk with you towards your goals of healing, resolution, and hope.

Getting to know Carisa Galloway

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am an eclectic therapist, pulling from broader therapeutic skills and tools to cater to any given specific client and their issue(s). I provide homework and challenging questions, thought-provoking statements, and care for what they need, what they want, and what they are ready for. I believe humor and sarcasm are beneficial at times and, when the words don't come, art and music tools can help a client express what words cannot. In short, I want to hear my client's story, get to know who they are, and help them learn about topics specific to their needs and reach the goals created in therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When I first meet a client we go through some Q&A. the Q&A process informs me about any assessments or inventories that may need to be completed to help me get a more detailed picture of you (who you are, what you're struggling with a deeper level). This helps me to get to know you better. Depending on what is going on with you and depending on the issue at hand, sometimes we may tackle symptoms and/or behaviors first that may be impeding your ability to work through the "yucky" stuff, the difficult stuff. I usually give homework directed towards your needs and goals. Every few sessions we check in on goals and work together until you and I see the goals are reached. Once you feels you have accomplished what you came to therapy for, therapy is no longer needed, but you are always free to come back to me or another therapist if needed. Sometimes a client's issues may be outside my scope of practice. If at anytime (before, during, near the end) I feel I would not be the best mental health professional to serve your needs, I will provide referrals for someone who may be more appropriate to help you walk through that issue or challenge in your life.
