Getting to know Carissa Sietsema

I aim to be that safe guide who will assist you in reaching the life you want. Ultimately, you are the boss and have a say in what changes you want to make and your goals. With the help of my expertise, I will assist you in finding meaning in your life, facing painful situations, and living a life you value. Throughout this process, I encourage transparency and open communication, as this is your life, not mine. YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT SPOT. I understand-I have been there too, watching myself go through life while feeling like a shell of a person. After experiencing several traumatic events, the loss of both my parents in my early 20s, and experiencing homelessness, I was left reeling with a variety of painful emotions. With the support of some wonderful individuals, I was able to take control of my life and continue to live boldly. Therapy with me isn't about becoming someone ?different.? There is no such thing as perfection, only progress. I believe you deserve to be heard, validated, and supported. Your story is yours and just as important as anyone else's story. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Marshall University and a Bachelor's degree from Northern Arizona University, which inform my compassionate and informed approach to therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

APPOINTMENT GUIDELINES ****************************** -(For all other insurances please request a superbill if submitting claim to your insurance) -A CREDIT CARD MUST ME KEPT ON FILE TO COVER COPAYS, SESSION FEES, AND NO SHOW/ CANCELATION FEES (Credit cards will be securely stored in the therapy portal. When creating your account in the therapy portal, you will be prompted to add your credit card information. Only the last 4 digits of the credit card will be shown when charging the card and all payments will be processed using the Stripe payment system) I specialize in working with adults struggling with OCD, Anxiety, Depression, and trauma. During our sessions together we will work towards achieving your goals. This process will allow you to decompress from life’s daily struggles while learning skills to find your peace and happiness. As a therapist it is my goal to help individuals have a better understanding of themselves, process past pain, and feel confident in moving through life. I believe in the importance of taking a holistic approach and understanding the big picture of what’s impacting our mental health. When treating OCD and trauma I use exposure therapies where we work on gradually facing things that cause you distress and building your tolerance to them, like adjusting to the water in a cold pool. In addition to exposure therapies, we will create a toolbox of skills needed to take control of your life. These tools can be useful in treating anxiety and depression as well as OCD and Trauma. All techniques used are based on your individual comfort level and preferences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session you will be given the chance to tell me your story so that I can better understand what you are struggling with. Like what is asked of you at a doctor’s appointment, we will discuss things such as your family history, medical history, and information about your symptoms. In this session we will also discuss what you wish to work on in therapy. After our initial session, we will create an action plan together which outlines what goals you want to meet and what tools or methods I can use to assist you with reaching those goals. Therapy with me is an active process that not only requires you to improve your understanding of yourself but also practice the skills learned.
