Getting to know Carla Kruse

Individual therapy: As a therapist with a strong foundation in relational work, I bring a deep understanding of how our past experiences and current relationships shape who we are. In my individual work, I especially enjoy supporting young adults who are navigating life transitions, career decisions, and the complexities of modern relationships—whether romantic, platonic, or familial. Clients often come to me when they're feeling stuck, unsure, or overwhelmed. Together, we explore self-esteem challenges, unresolved trauma, and patterns that no longer serve them. I help clients build a healthier relationship with their emotions, develop effective coping strategies, and gain clarity on major life decisions—all in a space that is supportive, nonjudgmental, and collaborative. Whether you're looking for a sounding board or ready to make meaningful change, I’m here to help you reconnect with your values, build confidence, and move forward with purpose Couples and Family Therapy (Private pay only): Are you having a difficult time communicating with your loved one? Do you desperately want love, affection, and support from them? Do you feel like you're banging your head against a wall every time you interact? I am here to help. I specialize in working with couples and families who are in distress. We all hit road bumps in our relationships, and sometimes we need a third, non-biased party to help everyone get back on track. I am a natural skeptic, so I only use evidence-based, brief psychotherapy practices designed to provide relief as soon as possible. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support you effectively. I love to read, especially the latest research on how to make relationships work, and I use that knowledge to help you and your family. My goal is to get your relationship working again, to help you reconnect, and to bring joy back into your lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize various cognitive approach's to our work, to assess how your mind is either working for you or against you. I help my clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns, identify where those patterns may have come from, and find ways to tame the "monkey mind" so to speak. I believe that while education and training matter, the most powerful connections happen when we meet one another as fellow humans. I bring that spirit of authenticity and empathy into every session.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When working with clients, my primary goal if to get you some relief. I want to get a sense of what you are looking for from a therapist and identify which specific modality I have been trained in will help you with your current struggles. I will begin by sending paperwork for you to fill out to understand my practice polices and your legal rights as a client. I utilize and have advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help manage internal distress (anxiety, depression, etc.) that is impacting your daily functioning and getting in the way of living your best life. For those seeking trauma treatment, I utilize the gold standard modality with my advanced training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
