Getting to know Carlen Milner

Hello, I'm Carlen Milner, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I provide therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, and trauma. My approach is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented, creating a supportive space where clients feel heard and understood. I integrate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and strengths-based approaches to help clients build coping skills, increase self-awareness, and create meaningful change. My goal is to help clients develop greater confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being while working toward the life they want to live.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy works best when clients feel safe, supported, and genuinely understood. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each person's unique needs and goals. I strive to create a nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly explore challenges, build self-awareness, and develop practical skills for managing life's difficulties. In our first session, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, and begin creating a plan that feels meaningful and achievable. I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), strengths-based interventions, and mindfulness techniques. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, life transitions, or trauma, I work alongside you to help build resilience, confidence, and lasting change. My goal is for clients to leave sessions feeling heard, empowered, and equipped with tools they can use in their daily lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and individualized. During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know one another, discussing what brings you to therapy, reviewing your history, and identifying the goals you would like to work toward. Together, we'll create a treatment plan that reflects your unique needs, strengths, and priorities. In ongoing sessions, we will explore patterns, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be contributing to current challenges while also building practical coping skills and strategies for change. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based approaches, and other evidence-based interventions. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions and gaining insight, while others may be more skill-based and goal-oriented. Throughout our work together, I strive to provide a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life.
