Working with me is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in respect for your lived experience. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, supportive space where you can show up as you are—without judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. I take time to build trust and prioritize creating a strong therapeutic relationship, as I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel truly heard and understood. I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, anxiety, burnout, and emotional overwhelm. I recognize that seeking therapy is a courageous step, and I aim to meet clients with warmth, curiosity, and patience. My goal is not to “fix” you, but to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your coping skills, and move toward changes that align with your values, goals, and overall wellbeing.

Getting to know Dr. Carly Ellman

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapy style is client-centered, strengths-based, and flexible. I recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so our work is tailored to your unique needs, experiences, and goals. Early in our work together, I focus on getting to know you—your story, what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’ve tried before, and what you hope to gain from the process. Together, we identify goals that feel meaningful and realistic, and we revisit them as therapy progresses. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, solution-focused techniques, and relational work, while also considering the broader context of your life, including relationships, family dynamics, stressors, and systems that may be impacting you. I view therapy as a collaborative partnership and regularly check in to ensure our work feels supportive, effective, and aligned with your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are conversational, supportive, and guided by what feels most important to you that day. A typical session may involve talking through current stressors, relationships, emotional patterns, or challenges you’re experiencing, while also reflecting on how past experiences may be influencing the present. I often help clients identify and understand emotions, notice unhelpful thought patterns, and develop practical coping strategies they can use outside of session. Some sessions are more insight-oriented and reflective, while others are more skills-based and focused on problem-solving—many are a blend of both. I encourage open dialogue and welcome questions throughout the process. You don’t need to know exactly what to say or where to start; part of my role is to help guide the conversation and support you in making sense of what you’re experiencing at a pace that feels comfortable.
