Carmi Ruiz, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Carmi! Hi! My name is Carmi Ruiz, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California. I'm based in Washington state and licensed in both California and Washington, but I work statewide with California clients via telehealth. I work with adults and older adults and specialize in PTSD, anxiety, and depression. My approach My approach to providing therapy varies depending on where the client is in their healing journey. I use a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing. My focus My specialty population has historically been military-from active duty to spouse to Veteran-however, I also enjoy working with the general population. I primarily work with BIPOC clients as I am also BIPOC and understand the unique issues these clients face. I'm bi-racial, Japanese/Peruvian, and have immigrant parents. I'm comfortable treating trauma and work collaboratively with clients as they gain a better understanding of themselves and face things they may have avoided. My communication style I'm very personable and calm. I bring my personality into therapy and try to create a comfortable, safe environment in my sessions by being real and honest. My journey to mental healthcare I've been in the social services field for about 20 years, starting with working with at-risk youth. As I completed my schooling and chose to become a social worker, I realized I wanted to work closely with people to help them heal their trauma. There's something about witnessing growth in people that keeps me passionate about being a therapist. I truly love what I do and the opportunity to know so many amazing clients every day! My goals for you We work together to come up with goals, but primarily these goals reflect what my clients want to get out of therapy.
