Navigating college or late-teen life can feel like juggling ten tabs in your brain at once — classes, relationships, family expectations, identity, money, your future… and somehow you’re supposed to “have it together.” If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or just not like yourself, you don’t have to do it alone. I’m Carolina Dolan-Dominguez, LCSW, a bilingual (English/Spanish) therapist who works with older teens and college students dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, academic pressure, and big life transitions. For over a decade, I’ve supported young people in schools, residential programs, and clinical settings, helping them feel grounded, confident, and equipped with real coping skills. My approach is warm, collaborative, and evidence-based — drawing from CBT, DBT skills, Trauma-Focused CBT, and solution-focused strategies. We’ll look at what’s actually happening in your life, learn skills that make day-to-day stress more manageable, and build healthier patterns in relationships, communication, and self-care. No judgment, no lectures, no “just think positive.” Just practical tools, emotional support, and someone genuinely in your corner. Whether you’re navigating academic burnout, relationship stress, identity questions, grief, or simply trying to figure out who you are and what you want, therapy can help you feel more steady and in control. If you’re ready for support that meets you where you are and moves at your pace, I’d be honored to work with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is calm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I want you to feel comfortable being yourself, without pressure to perform or pretend everything is fine. In our sessions, you can expect a mix of talking through what’s going on and learning practical tools you can use right away. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT skills, Trauma-Focused CBT, and solution-focused strategies — but in a way that feels relatable, not clinical or overwhelming. We’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, habits, and relationships, then work together to build skills that help you manage stress, improve communication, feel more grounded, and move through tough moments with confidence. I won’t push you faster than you’re ready to go, but I also won’t just nod and say “uh-huh.” I’ll offer gentle guidance, ask thoughtful questions, and help you make sense of what you’re experiencing. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling understood, supported, and equipped with something useful for the week ahead. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, family or relationship stress, or life transitions, I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll take time to understand what’s bringing you in — your stressors, symptoms, goals, and what you hope will feel different in your life. I’ll ask some questions, but there’s no pressure to share anything before you’re ready. Together, we’ll start mapping out what support looks like for you. From there, sessions usually blend two things: 1. Talking through what’s happening in your world — school stress, relationships, family dynamics, identity shifts, or anything that’s impacting your mood and functioning. 2. Learning and practicing skills — tools from CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and solution-focused strategies to help you manage anxiety, regulate emotions, set boundaries, and understand your patterns. We’ll check in regularly about what’s working, what isn’t, and adjust our plan so therapy stays meaningful and useful to you. I also encourage clients to apply at least one skill or insight between sessions so you can feel progress in real time. My goal is to help you build confidence, resilience, and clarity — not just talk about problems, but actually move toward feeling better and living more intentionally. You set the pace, and we work as a team to help you get where you want to be.

I want the billing process to feel simple and predictable. I accept several major insurance plans on Zocdoc, and if your plan is listed, we will verify your benefits before your first session so you know what to expect. Copays or coinsurance are charged after each appointment, and any deductible amounts are billed once your insurance processes the claim. If you’re using out-of-network benefits, I can provide a detailed receipt (“superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. For clients paying privately, I offer straightforward, transparent rates with no surprise fees. Payment is processed securely through our electronic health record after each visit. If you ever have questions about your benefits, costs, or statements, I’m happy to walk you through it. And if an unexpected insurance issue comes up (it happens!), I’ll help you understand your options and work with you to find a manageable solution. My goal is to make getting care as accessible and stress-free as possible.
