Carolyn Franco, LMSW

Psychotherapist
1997 Annapolis Exchange Pkwy, Ste 300, Annapolis, MD
I believe that each patient is the expert on their own lived experience. That belief guides my work as a licensed social worker specializing in compassionate therapeutic strategies built on your strengths, for children and adults facing personal challenges. I support children, adolescents, and adults navigating challenges such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and difficulties building and maintaining meaningful connections. Together, we explore the underlying influences of family dynamics, life transitions, and unresolved trauma that may contribute to stress, emotional overwhelm, and patterns that work against you. From there, we work toward a deeper understanding of yourself, healthier coping strategies, and meaningful, lasting change. Drawing on my clinical knowledge and skills, I aim to help you explore and reshape the narratives you hold about yourself and the world around you, fostering resilience and deeper awareness of yourself. I approach our work together with empathy, patience, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to listening and understanding.

What should a new client know about working with you?

DISCLAIMER: We are not accepting Medicare or Medicaid plans at this time. My path to becoming a therapist began nearly a decade ago, while I was an established professional in academia. What started as a curiosity about social media’s impact on human connection evolved into a deeper sense of purpose, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic brought questions of belonging, connection, and emotional well-being to the forefront. I became increasingly interested in how our digital world shapes relationships, expectations of friendship and support, and our sense of community, especially for children and adolescents. I was equally inspired by the potential for meaningful, lasting improvements in mental well-being when people have access to the right tools, strategies, and support. These interests led me to pursue a career in therapy, bringing together my appreciation for research, curiosity about the human experience, and commitment to helping others navigate life’s challenges.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), alongside narrative approaches. Together, these help you better understand yourself, navigate challenges, and create meaningful change. I’m passionate about understanding your unique history, motivations, and relationships and how these experiences shape your sense of self. By exploring and reshaping these stories, you can develop a deeper understanding of who you are and move toward a more meaningful and fulfilling life. In our sessions, you’ll find a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. My style is curious, collaborative, and authentic, tailored to your unique experiences, needs, and goals for personal growth.
