Getting to know Carri Wilson

Hello, I'm Carri. I would like to take a few moments of your time to tell you a little bit about myself so you can decide if we will be a good match. Being matched with a therapist who will understand your point of view and genuinely listen to what you have to say is very important. In fact, it is the number one predictor of success in therapy. It really doesn’t matter the “reason” you are seeking help; the bottom line is you want someone who will not judge you, yet help give you clarity on what you are going through. I am honestly not the smartest therapist you will meet, nor will I claim to know all the answers. I am, however, very genuine with my approach. I will not only listen to what you are saying but also what you aren’t saying. Maybe you’ve been through things you would rather not talk about. I get that. But I will provide a space for you that is safe when you do feel like talking about it. I could list all of my areas of “expertise” but the only important thing is that I know how to deal with trauma and the brain science behind it. Let’s face it, it all pretty much boils down to trauma. Whether it was trauma caused by physical abuse, the emotional abuse of a parent or spouse, the abuse from a school system that doesn’t understand the needs of a student, the overwhelming feeling of being taken advantage of, being the caretaker of elderly family members, being the scapegoat for an overbearing boss, or simply the trauma of not understanding your own sensitivities and anxieties, it is all traumatic. If you see yourself in any of these categories or anything similar, then I think we would be a good match. I love giving people the tools they need to help deal with those situations. I think my favorite type of client to work with is the one that is honest and willing to try to help themselves. In the beginning, it may seem to be too hard to help yourself, which is totally understandable, but that is where I step in. I use a cognitive behavioral/EMDR approach to therapy which is just a fancy way of saying that I believe our thoughts affect the way we feel, and the way we feel affects our actions, and if we can change the way we think about something, we can change our behaviors, which is why you are here. Although I do believe in looking into your past for answers, I want you to focus on the future with the hope of change. Hope is the essence of good therapy. I myself have needed the gift of hope while maneuvering difficult family relationships, the loss of trust with friends and coworkers, the sense of being overwhelmed with the unfairness of life and death, and personal disappointments. So, when I say I understand, I do. That is not only why I wanted to be a counselor but why I want to help you. If you think, after reading this, that I would be a good match for your circumstances, then please feel free to reach out to me.
