Getting to know Carrie Mills

I am Carrie A. Mills, LMSW, and I specialize in individual therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, childhood trauma, chronic stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and major life transitions. I also provide a safe, affirming, and supportive space for individuals exploring their identity and experiences within the LGBTQIA+ community. My therapeutic approach integrates Trauma-Informed Care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs, experiences, and goals, with an emphasis on building resilience, developing effective coping strategies, and fostering meaningful personal growth. I earned my Master of Social Work from the University at Buffalo and am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in New York State through the Office of the Professions (License #101708-01). My goal is to help clients strengthen their self-awareness, reconnect with their strengths, and develop the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges and improve their overall well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re unsure where to begin. I want you to know that you don’t have to have everything figured out before our first session. We can begin exactly where you are, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I believe effective therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, empathy, and collaboration. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental environment where you feel safe sharing your experiences and confident that your perspective will be heard and respected. Our work together will be tailored to your needs and goals. We may explore patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, stress, or other challenges; practice mindfulness and grounding techniques; or identify your existing strengths and develop practical strategies for moving forward. I will honor your experiences and work at a pace that feels right for you, without pressuring you to revisit difficult experiences before you are ready. Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and spending time with my three corgis. I believe that nurturing ourselves and making room for the things that bring us joy helps us show up more fully in our relationships and everyday lives. My hope is that you leave our work together feeling more understood, empowered, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges. Together, we can build on your strengths, develop healthier coping skills, and work toward greater confidence, balance, and well-being.
