Getting to know Casey Petterson

My name is Casey Petterson, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor living in Denver, CO. I am a Kansas native but have lived in Colorado with my spouse for nearly a decade. I received a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Denver Seminary in 2020. I have worked with a variety of clients in group practice and have experience doing career counseling in the university setting. First and foremost, I want to create space for my clients to feel heard and understood. It's tough to show up and talk to a stranger about your deepest emotions, but as the therapeutic relationship develops, so does your capacity for vulnerability. I believe that each person is an expert on themselves-no one will ever know more about you than you! My job is to act as a gentle guide and resource as you navigate your story and healing journey. When appropriate, I will compassionately offer insights, challenges, and reflections to support your process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to address health through a physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual lens. All of these elements are deeply intertwined and I explore each of them with my clients as they relate to individual goals. Humans tend to store a lot of emotional pain in their physical bodies. I frequently use mindful awareness and breath-work to help client's connect to their bodies and emotions, making way for healing and greater well-being. Limiting beliefs and thinking patterns are also stored in our bodies and often start from a young age. These beliefs may be solidified over time as we experience distressing life events that greatly impact the way we feel about ourselves. Once I have established a therapeutic connection with my clients, we will dig into some of these thinking patterns that are no longer helpful. I may use talk therapy, EMDR, Ego State Therapy or various other modalities depending on the client's needs and readiness. If you are ready to take the first step in therapy, all I need from you is your willingness to do this work. The effectiveness of this process relies on your ability to be open and honest about what you're feeling and the areas of growth you would like to pursue. As your therapist, I will be here to provide a grounded, non-judgmental, and empathic presence during your process. If you decide this is for you, I would be honored to walk with you and hold a part of your story.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First session: Once you book a session, I will send you some online forms to fill out before our first meeting. In our first meeting, we will discuss your previous therapy experiences, your reasons for seeking services, and your goals for therapy. You can expect this to be a gentle process where you have space for your story to be heard and held.
